My coccyx had a calcified joint

In 2020, I started getting coccyx pain and difficulty sitting out of the blue. Despite being prescribed increasing amounts of pain medication, it just got worse even when standing and walking. The medication only took the edge off the pain and left me feeling dizzy, drowsy and tired most of the time.

After about 10 months of going through the routine NHS referrals, I was eventually put on a waiting list for manipulation under anaesthesia and steroid injection with no conclusive diagnosis other than coccydinia. Two months later and still waiting in frustration, I stumbled across patient reviews for Michael Durtnall (specialist chiropractor) on coccyx.org (see Doctors and specialists in the UK, London) and decided to make a booking with him. He took X-rays which showed that my coccyx was pointing straight down and had a calcified joint, explaining the pain I felt when I tried to sit.

Michael started weekly coccyx manipulations to get my coccyx mobile again. After 5 weeks, my pain has gone down by 70%. I also had deep tissue massage done, was provided with exercises to do; encouraged to increase my levels of physical activity, come off the pain medication and to use a specific coccyx cushion when sitting.

All this is making a huge positive difference to my quality of life and outlook. To anyone reading this who is suffering from coccyx pain - please don't put up with it any longer, seek help from Michael Durtnall and his staff at Sayer Clinics."
