Chiropractor treatment not helping much

I've been suffering from coccyx pain for four months. I believe it all started with my previous job as a gardener, where I spent a lot of time bending over. It was a hard job. There was a time when I sat in the car and felt excruciating pain, but it went away after two days. I kept working, and three weeks later, while sitting in a bar for a long time, I felt pain again (two and half months ago).

I started going to a chiropractor about 8 weeks ago. He requested an X-ray, which revealed that my spine and coccyx were slightly deviated. The x-rays will show a deviation in my column and a slight deviation in my coccyx, but it is in the coccyx that I am most uncomfortable.

The fact is that I live in a foreign country (Australia), and I am confident that he is concerned about my health, but after 17 sessions and more than 1000 $ spent, I am unsure if the chiropractor is the best option.

I've felt better because, for example, I used to be unable to sit on a blue roller that he recommended to me in order to improve the positioning of my spine. I'd sit and then lie on it for three minutes, and every time I sat down, I felt a strong sting.

I no longer feel it, but when I go for a run, the pain sometimes radiates up my ass. I also experience discomfort when I sit for an extended period of time. For the past two months, I have avoided sitting on hard surfaces by using a cushion or a float to prevent the coccyx from being supported, but I still experience discomfort.

Note from Jon Miles:

I emailed more than a year after this story was posted, to ask for an update, as the long-term outcome of treatment is of great interest. In this case I did not get a reply.
