After having my second child by C section, where I was less mobile my coccyx started to get painful especially when sitting down. It gradually got more & more painful to the point where it had a big impact on my everyday life. I found myself in a lot of pain and I was stuck in bed most weekends. After being misdiagnosed and having a cortisone injection only for the pain to come back, I decided to do a lot of further research and I found Michael Durtnall on coccyx.org (see Doctors and specialists in the UK, London).
Michael gave me hope that we could sort this with some patience and commitment. I've now completed a years worth of treatment coming weekly at first and then gradually to fortnightly. I am very happy to say that I'm now around 70% better and my life is completely different to how it was a year ago.
I was unable to sit at the theatre, go on a plane journey or a long car journey without being in a lot of discomfort but now I am able to do these simple everyday things. It made me feel very fed up and down as it was controlling my life. Thankfully I don't feel like that anymore. Fingers crossed it will continue and I can get to the stage that I can say I am 100% better and back to normal.
Note from Jon Miles:
I emailed more than a year after this story was posted, to ask for an update, as the long-term outcome of treatment is of great interest. In this case I did not get a reply.
