Finally, I have been cured!

Finally after 10 months of suffering from coccyx pain and being told by doctors and physiotherapists "It will get better eventually, just give it time," I have been cured! And it's all thanks to this fantastic website and the wonderful work of Dr Robert 'Bob' Griffiths (see Doctors and specialists in the UK, London).

My coccyx injury was brought on by the birth of my first son. I was in labour for a long time, was sat on my bottom pushing as my legs were too numb for any other position, and eventually I had to have an episiotomy and forceps delivery. I soon realised I had done something to my tailbone after I was unable to sit down a week later without excruciating pain.

I went back to the doctor who referred me to an NHS physio. Two months later I got an appointment and was told I essentially had huge bruising to the coccyx area, that I should avoid sitting down, do core strengthening exercises and wait for it to heal. Four months later it had slightly improved, but I returned to the physio in tears. Again she said it would heal in time. I used a coccyx cushion everywhere I went but was getting really fed up.

Eventually I took to my own resources and went online to find this website (I wish I had done it sooner!) I opted for someone who did manual treatment as I was so keen to just get it sorted whatever it took. I chose Robert Griffiths and went to see him at the London Healthcare Clinic in Liverpool Street. He was very personable, had a great sense of humour and instantly made me feel at ease.

Straight away he could feel that the coccyx was misaligned and not curving under at the bottom. He talked through the options with me and I decided to go through with the manual manipulation. He demonstrated what this would feel like on my little finger and far from being the crunching and clicking I thought it would be it actually seemed so gentle! The procedure was so quick and only slightly uncomfortable but I could instantly feel things were back in the right place again.

I had further massage, acupuncture and ultrasound therapy and after just five weeks I'm back to sitting down again at last (although I'm still using a cushion for now so it continues to heal).

I cannot thank him enough for restoring my sense of normality and fixing me for good! I really thought there would be no cure.

Bob, you are a legend!

Note from Jon Miles:

I emailed more than a year after this story was posted, to ask for an update, as the long-term outcome of treatment is of great interest. In this case I did not get a reply.
