I have had tailbone pain for 2 years. I fell several times on my butt. X-rays were all negative for any breaks. I went to a male physical therapist and he did not help. He was even afraid to "Go there"! Dr Miller, an orthopedic surgeon, in Davenport, Iowa referred me to a physical therapist in Bettendorf, Iowa. She is awesome! I have been seeing her for under 6 months now. She is treating my tailbone, cheeks, and overall butt area with deep massage, ultrasound, and laser treatment. I am sure that there are specific medical terms for this therapy. However, I can not tell you the lingo.
Six months ago, I could not sit for long periods of time. Anti-flammatories, "donuts", etc, did not alleviate any of the pain. I am happy to say that I sat through a 2 hour play a few weeks ago and did not ache in pain.
In the beginning, I was being treated 3 times a week. Now, I am down to one treatment a week. My physical therapist and I are soon going to cancel all treatments.
In order to get good results, you need to be treated by a physical therapist who knows what they are doing. I will answer any questions that you may have. I hope your butt feels better soon!!
