Letter of enquiry to specialists

If you cannot find a suitable specialist near to you in the list of doctors and other specialists, you could try to find one by writing to specialists near you. I have drafted a letter that you could send out to a number of them, enquiring about the treatments that they provide, and how successful such treatments were. Here is the draft letter. It will open up in Word or whatever word processor you use. If your word processor doesn't like Word documents, try a rich text file version of the letter.

I suggest that you:

1. Type in your address and the date at the top of the letter, and your own name at the bottom
2. Make any changes to the letter that you need to make
3. Save the letter in a suitable folder on your computer
4. For each specialist in turn: type in their name, print the letter, sign it, and send it off

Alternatively, if you are not used to using a word processor, you could just print off several copies of the draft letter, and write in your address, the date, your name and the specialist's name.

To have a reasonable chance of success in finding a suitable specialist, you may need to send out ten or twenty such letters.

Where to find the specialists to write to (chiropractors, osteopaths, physical therapists, orthopedic surgeons, etc)

1. Look in the telephone book and commercial directories such as Yellow pages
2. Use internet directories such as US Yellow pages online, UK Yellow pages online, or Australian Yellow pages online
3. Ask the appropriate professional organisation for a list of local practitioners
4. To find a list of possible surgeons in Australia, go to the Australian Orthopaedic Association website, select: SPINE in the speciality section, and click the SEARCH button.
5. To find a list of possible surgeons in the USA, go to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons website or the Spine Health website.
