The researchers who produce possible new treatments for chronic pain often say something like "Of course, it will be years before this can be applied to humans". In my opinion, this attitude is over-careful. People who are dying, disabled, or in severe pain should have the right to decide for themselves whether or not they want to take the risk of using a drug which has not been through the full approval process.
