I had a complete coccygectomy 15 weeks ago and am still in worse pain than before the surgery. I just saw my surgeon yesterday and he is baffled as to why I'm not improving. I can only sit briefly on a coccyx cushion and cannot put any pressure on area. I spend most of my time standing or lying down. The pain is constant. I had a recent x-ray and everything looked fine.
My pain is on the end of the sacrum where the coccyx was removed and on both sides. I had 3 cortisone injections prior to the surgery with only about 3 hours relief, which was enough to diagnose coccydynia; one injection was done under x-ray. I'm having one more injection next week, under x-ray, and then I'm not sure what else can be done.
I might add that my surgeon is very experienced doing this type of surgery and has had much success. If anyone has any advice for me, it would be very much appreciated.
