Between December 1998 and August 2006, 1,000 people have put their experiences of coccyx pain on this website, in Personal experiences or Expériences personnelles. About 3,000 more people have written to me directly about their pain, but didn't want to post their stories on the website. There are also about 40,000 people a month visiting the website. This may be a 'rare' condition, but clearly there are many people suffering from it, and unfortunately they often get little useful help from their doctors.
I started the site in 1998, because I could find little useful information about coccydynia on the internet (you can read about my injury and treatments here). At first the site was in my personal web space on Compuserve, then I bought the coccyx.org domain in 2000. My first aim was to create the kind of website that I would have liked to find when I first injured myself. As the site developed, it was shaped by the suggestions that people made, and by the questions that people asked me. I have tried to make it easy to find the information that you want.
Apart from the 1,000 people who posted their stories, hundreds of sufferers, doctors, manual therapists of various kinds and other medical practitioners have contributed suggestions or material to the website. Many people who posted their email addresses have also helped by answering questions and giving support to those who wrote to them directly.
One of the contributors to this site, Rory Greenwell, set up a closed discussion group called t-bones for coccyx pain sufferers, and acts as moderator for it. Here people can talk to others in the same boat, without outsiders looking on.
On behalf of the visitors to the website, I would like to give a big thank-you to everyone who has contributed to the website. Many people have told me that they are extremely grateful to find that they are not alone, that there are treatments for their pains, and that there are specialists who have experience in treating this problem. I believe that the internet, by letting us share our problems and solutions, has helped us all.
If you have any suggestions for improvements or additions to the site, you can contact me here.
